New season of Ten Dollar Dinners!

The 7th season of “Ten Dollar Dinners” premiered Sunday, July 15th with the “Chick, Chick, Ole!” episode. I made a hearty Grilled Chicken Fajitas Platter with homemade Flour Tortillas and a delicious Grilled Tomato Salsa. We made flour tortillas all the time when I was growing up in Tucson, Ariz. In fact, I’m getting pretty nostalgic in this new season as a whole.

And…how exciting is this?!…this season marks a FIRST in “Ten Dollar Dinners” history. Yes, it’s true. I welcome my FIRST-EVER guests to show on the August 19th episode. And who better to be my first guests than my very own family! My two older girls cook alongside me in the kitchen (we even make my famous Green Morning Smoothies, which they LOVE) and then my husband and the twins join us at the end for a family brunch. The girls had a great time, and they are just itching to see it on TV.

Here’s a fun post on Food Network’s blog written by the lovely Sarah De Heer about the new season and its nostalgia, my girls’ first visit to the set, and some fun (read: random) facts about me.

I’m excited to watch this season (which, by the way, I do right there along with you – I don’t see the episodes before they air) and relive the great time I had shooting these episodes chock full of warm food memories and also just some of my favorite comfort foods – ultimate Grilled Cheese and Banana Splits, anyone? I also have a whole episode with affordable appetizers like Spicy Turkey Lollipops and Blue Cheese Fondue. And, in another nod to Tucson, I cook up Arroz con Pollo as well as Applesauce Empanadas.

New episodes air Sunday at 10amET on Food Network. You can keep tabs on which episodes are coming up on the site’s calendar and, of course, you can get all the recipes here too as well as on FoodNetwork.com. (Tip: if you miss Sunday’s episodes, it runs again on Monday afternoons, and then other repeats play Tuesday-Friday).

Enjoy! Melissa
