DASH Magazine: How to Lighten Up Thanksgiving Appetizers

In this month’s “Ask Melissa” column of DASH Magazine, a reader asks: “The rest of Thanksgiving is so rich—what are some light and easy appetizers to serve?”

Her Answer: Classic appetizers like soup and salad easily transform into crowd-pleasing light hors d’oeuvres. Turn salads into finger food by making easy shells from sliced bread, like I do with my Caprese Tartlets. Switch up the filling too: Try kale salad with herbed pecans or green salad with roasted pears and blue cheese. Turn soup into an easy no-utensil “soup-shooter” by serving it in tiny cups. Set out a variety of soups bursting with fall flavors, like Orange Carrot Soup and Butternut Squash Soup. (Bonus: Soup is easy to make ahead in big batches!)
